Big English is the first primary programme to integrate with MyEnglishLab, which includes fun games, videos and puzzles that are great at capturing the attention of energetic young learners. Personalise tests and assessments for each pupil and check their progress quickly and easily.

Big English is built on three educational pillars

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)

  • Ready-made Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) lessons help you to challenge pupils to be creative, think critically and collaborate. It brings the world into the classroom with up-to-date content that is relevant to pupil’s lives.

In-built Assessment for Learning (AfL)

  • AfL help you pinpoint where pupils need help. It’s a great way to get pupils more involved in the learning process to become more effective learners.

21st Century Skills

  • 21st Century Skills, embedded throughout the course, help pupils develop essential skills for life, such as Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity and Digital Literacy.

Learning and innovation skills increasingly are being recognized as those that separate pupils who are prepared for a more and more complex life and work environments in the 21st century, and those who are not. A focus on creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration is essential to prepare pupils for the future.

Why choose Big English?

Encourage critical thinking

Big English uses 21st Century Skills to teach young learners about the world around them with photos and culture pages. Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) topics from across the curriculum extend pupils’ vocabulary and English skills and get them interested in the Big picture.

How does Big English map to CYLETS?

Pearson Test of English - Young Learners

Pearson Test of English for Young Learners (PETYL) provides fun English language assessment for pupils aged six to 13, delivered by Edexcel, the UK's largest examining body. There are four different levels of PTE Young Learners, to suit pupils from pre-A1 to A2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference. The tests assess a young learner's ability to use English language communicatively, with an emphasis on real-life scenarios rather than on knowledge of specific language items and vocabulary.

Big English prepares learners for the requirements found in the PTEYL - First Words, Springboard, Quickmarch and Breakthrough.
