2018 Pearson ELT Teacher Award - Competition Terms and Conditions
The title of the competition is the 2018 Pearson ELT Teacher Award.
Overview: The 2018 Pearson ELT Teacher Award is a global competition designed to celebrate good English teaching practice and to showcase teachers who have implemented innovative ways of teaching in their classrooms.
There will be six winners. One winner will be selected from each of the five geographical regions (Africa & Middle East, Asia & Oceania, Europe & Central Asia, North & Central America, South America) (“ELT Teacher Awards”). In addition, one entry will be selected by a public vote (“People’s Choice Awards”) together “the Awards”.
The competition will be run and administered online via the website pearsonelt.com/teacher-award (“the Site”).
How to enter
The competition will run from 5th October 2017 (the "Opening Date") to 31st December 2017 (the "Closing Date") inclusive.
All competition entries must be received by the Pearson team via the Site by no later than midnight on the Closing Date. All competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.
To enter the competition you must submit a completed entry form, which can be found on the Site, by the Closing Date.

NOTE: When uploading the video to any third party site like Youtube or facebook , you are bound by that site’s terms and conditions. We have no control over the video posted on the third party site and will not accept any liability regarding the video or the third party site.
IMPORTANT: By entering you confirm that it is you in the video, and only you. You will be asked to confirm that you are over 18 years of age. No students or other persons may appear in the video that you submit. Any entries featuring other individuals will be rejected.
Pearson will not accept responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause. For example, as a result of equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind. Please do not send proof of posting or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition, as this is an online competition only.
By submitting a competition entry or nomination, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.
The competition entries for the ELT Teacher Awards in all regions will be judged by a panel of three judges from Pearson ELT: Fathima Dada, Bruce Neale, Pedro Vasconcellos. Pearson reserve the right to conduct a pre-selection process by suitably qualified Pearson staff. The decision of the panel of judges (acting reasonably) will be final.
For The People’s Choice Award one entry in each region will be chosen by visitors to the Site by an online vote (‘Like’). Pearson reserves the right to filter the entries and pre select appropriate entries for The People’s Choice Award. The votes are restricted to one vote per visitor. Voting will take place between 8th and 24th January 2018.
The Awards are open to a
head, deputy head, teacher, teaching assistant, or team in a school or a lecturer or team in an establishment currently teaching English as a foreign language (English language teacher) anywhere in the world; from all schools whether state maintained or independent, except:
(a) employees of Pearson or its holding or subsidiary companies who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration;
(b) employees of agents or suppliers of Pearson or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration; or
(c) members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above or of the person they have nominated.
There is a limit of one entry to the competition per person.
Pearson reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition. Competition entries cannot be returned.
The 2018 Pearson ELT Teacher Awards:
Pearson intends to award a winner selected from each of the five geographical regions:
1. Africa & Middle East
2. Asia & Oceania
3. Europe & Central Asia
4. North & Central America
5. South America.
However, if the entries from one or more regions are too poor in quality, Pearson retains the right not to award a prize in the region.
Pearson also intends to award a winner of the People’s Choice Award. This will be an entrant from one of the five regions who has won the most votes from the Site.
One person might win the ELT Teacher Award in their region as well as the People’s Choice Award.
Prizes are subject to availability. There is no cash alternative for the prizes. The prizes are not negotiable or transferable.
The winners of the Pearson ELT Teacher Awards will be invited to attend either the TESOL 2018 conference, Chicago, USA or the IATEFL 2018 conference in Brighton, UK, in March and April 2018 respectively. Pearson will cover travel expenses to include economy class flights, accommodation for four or five nights at a hotel with no less than three stars and subsistence of GBP 50 per day, as well as airport transfers within the conference country. The prize does not include airport transfer within the winner's country, travel insurance, visa fees, spending money, or personal expenses. Any other costs incurred in addition to those set out above, and that are incidental to the fulfilment of the prize, are the responsibility of the winner. Travel and accommodation will be arranged by the Pearson team.
Winners will be responsible for ensuring that they are available to travel and hold valid passports, any necessary visas and travel documents for the trip in question, on the travel dates specified. If they are not available or able to travel they must inform Pearson immediately after the Announcement Date as defined below and Pearson reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.
The winners of the competition will be announced on the Site on 25th January 2018 (Announcement Date).
The decision of the judges nominated by Pearson for the Pearson ELT Teacher Awards and the decision of the public for the People’s Choice Award are final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
Pearson will contact the winners as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, using the email address provided with the competition entry.
A list of Winners can be viewed on the Site from the Announcement Date for a period of at least 30 days.
Claiming the prizes
If you are the winner of a prize, we will contact you by 25th January 2018 via email. You then have until 31st January 2018 to claim the prize by responding to the communication you receive from Pearson informing you that you have won. If you do not claim the prize by this date, your claim will become invalid. Your prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.
Pearson will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winners. If a winner cannot be contacted or is not available, or has not claimed their prize by 31st January 2018, Pearson reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.
Pearson does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to claim your prize.
Limitation of liability
Insofar as is permitted by law, Pearson, its agents or distributors will not, in any circumstances, be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize, except where it is caused by the negligence of Pearson, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
Ownership of competition entries and intellectual property rights
All competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to Pearson will become the property of Pearson on receipt and will not be returned.
By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material, you agree that:
(a) You have all the relevant rights and permissions to upload the entry and any accompanying material;
(b) You assign to Pearson all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and
(c) You waive all moral rights, in and to your competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.
You agree that Pearson may, but is not required to, make your entry available on the Site and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. You agree to grant Pearson a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sublicense the competition entry and any accompanying materials for such purposes.
Data protection and publicity
If you are the winner of the competition, you agree that Pearson may use your name, image and town or county of residence to announce the winner of this competition and for any other reasonable and related promotional purposes.
You further agree to participate in any reasonable publicity required by Pearson.
By entering the competition, you agree that any personal information provided by you with the competition entry may be held and used only by Pearson or its agents and suppliers to administer the competition.
If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, Pearson may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.
Pearson reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
